Chiusa Sclafani (PA)
Always present in European vegetation in the wild state, the cultivation of cherry trees originated in Asia Minor and specifically in Cerasunte, a city on the Black Sea, hence the Latin name, specific to the fruit tree: Cerasus. During the event, stands of typical local products will be set up.
The territory of Chiusa Sclafani, thanks to its particular microclimate, is one of the preferred areas for this crop. The cherry is a valuable product, thanks also to its highly individualised characteristics. There are three local cultivars: moscatella, cappuccia and caddusa. The Chiusa Sclafani cherry is produced in the municipality of the same name in the province of Palermo from a local ecotype called the “Cappuccia” variety, which gives the town of Chiusa Sclafani the nickname “cherry town”.
